Product Description

Buy Lightweight Plywood For Marine Furniture (Birch) from Alvi-Bel

Lightweight plywood for marine furniture is specially designed to meet the rigorous demands of marine environments while providing the durability and performance needed for high-quality furniture. This plywood is ideal for use in boats, yachts, and other marine applications, where weight reduction is crucial and resistance to moisture and harsh conditions is essential. Combining lightweight properties with high strength and durability, this plywood offers both functionality and longevity in marine conditions.

Manufacturing Features

The production of lightweight plywood for marine furniture involves the use of specialized materials and manufacturing techniques to achieve a balance between weight and strength. High-quality veneers are bonded using phenolic formaldehyde adhesive, known for its moisture resistance and durability. For marine applications, the plywood is often coated with High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) to increase its resistance to water and wear. The lightweight nature of the plywood is achieved through careful selection of core materials and construction methods, ensuring that it meets the specific needs of marine furniture.

Key Characteristics

  • Lightweight: Significantly lighter than traditional marine plywood, making it easier to handle, install, and reduce the overall weight of the vessel.
  • Water-resistant: Manufactured using water-resistant adhesives and high-quality veneers that prevent damage from moisture and humidity.
  • Durable: Resistant to warping, swelling, and delamination, even after prolonged exposure to marine conditions.
  • Eco-friendly: Made from sustainably sourced materials, minimizing environmental impact.
  • High structural integrity: Maintains strength and stability, making it suitable for both load-bearing and decorative applications.

Surface Types

Our lightweight plywood is available with various surface finishes to meet the needs of marine furniture applications.
Options include: sanded on both sides (S2S), unsanded (NS), and High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) coated.
The sanded finish provides a smooth, polished surface suitable for high-quality furniture, while the unsanded option is ideal for projects where further surface treatment is planned.
The HPL coating offers additional protection against moisture and wear, making it ideal for demanding marine conditions.

Sizes and Thicknesses Offered

Our company offers lightweight plywood in various sizes and thicknesses to suit different marine furniture applications.
Standard thicknesses: 15 mm and 19 mm, with additional HPL-coated options in 17 mm and 21 mm thicknesses.
The plywood is available in sizes such as 1525×1525 mm and 2950×1525 mm, providing flexibility for various design and construction requirements.
These options ensure that our plywood can be tailored to the specific dimensions and weight requirements of marine furniture projects.

Areas of Application

This lightweight plywood is versatile and suitable for a wide range of marine furniture applications:

  • Furniture: Ideal for constructing lightweight cabinets that maximize storage space without adding unnecessary weight.
  • Seating: Excellent for creating benches, chairs, and other seating options that are both comfortable and moisture-resistant.
  • Tables and countertops: Durable enough to create solid tables and countertops that can withstand everyday use in a marine environment.
  • Wall panels and partitions: Lightweight and easy to install, making it suitable for use as wall panels and partitions in cabins and living spaces.
  • Deck furniture: Perfect for outdoor furniture exposed to the elements, providing longevity and resistance to the harsh marine climate.

Grades

We offer lightweight plywood for marine furniture in various grades to meet different quality and performance needs.
Available grades include: B/B, B/BB, BB/BB, BB/CP, BB/C, CP/CP, CP/C, and C/C.
Each grade reflects the quality of the veneer, overall appearance, and structural integrity of the plywood.
Higher grades, such as B/B and B/BB, offer better surface quality and finish, while lower grades, such as C/C, are more economical and suitable for applications where appearance is less critical.

Adhesive

In the production of our lightweight plywood for marine furniture, we use phenolic formaldehyde adhesive. This adhesive is known for its strong bonding properties and moisture resistance, which are crucial for the durability of marine applications. The use of phenolic formaldehyde adhesive ensures that the plywood maintains its structural integrity and performance even in harsh marine conditions.

Formaldehyde Emissions and Moisture Content

Our lightweight plywood has low formaldehyde emissions, ranging from 0.1-0.2 mg/m² h, well below the standard of 3.5 mg/m² h. This makes our plywood a safe choice for indoor and enclosed marine environments, meeting stringent health and environmental standards. The moisture content of the plywood ranges from 5% to 12%, helping to prevent warping and maintaining stability in varying humidity conditions.

Package Weight

The weight of a single package of our lightweight plywood for marine furniture ranges from 600 to 1100 kg, depending on the thickness and size of the sheets. This weight range allows for easy handling and transport, while maintaining the lightweight properties essential for marine applications.

Grades of plywood

Photos show the approximate appearance of the plywood. Plywood sheets may differ from the pictures in terms of acceptable defects. Each grade has its own acceptable defects, check with your manager for details.

Class B

Grade B/B, B/BB plywood is used for furniture and interior and exterior decoration. If sheet appearance and maximum strength are crucial for your purposes, it is best to choose B grade, which also has the strictest technical control when it comes to production. Only minor defects are allowed.

Class BB

Class BB/BB, BB/CP is mainly used as a base for floors or as various furniture components, as well as a base for laminated plywood.

Class CP

CP grade is ideal for projects where appearance is not paramount or those that are invisible. It is used for packaging materials or flooring underlay. The incidence of noticeable defects is higher compared to better grades.

Class C

Class C is reserved for products whose appearance is of no importance. There may be a few visually noticeable flaws. Nevertheless, we guarantee that the veneers are properly glued together. It is suitable for use as packaging because despite the low grade, the plywood is still waterproof and durable.

Plywood can be used in many areas:
Furniture

Furniture manufacturing - decorative elements of furniture can be made from plywood, as can walls and other parts of the structure. Film-coated F/F and F/W plywood are often used for these purposes.

Formwork

Plywood is a convenient option for making formwork for pouring concrete. Namely F/F plywood.

Finishing

Plywood can be used to make interior and exterior decorative elements or used to cover walls and roofs. MR (interior) plywood is great for cladding interior walls, while WBP (exterior) plywood is an ideal exterior cladding. Thanks to the phenol-formaldehyde adhesive used in its composition, this type of plywood has increased water resistance.

Transport

Sheathing of railroad cars, floors of truck trailers. F/W plywood with a special anti-slip coating is ideal for such purposes.

Packaging

Plywood is one of the components used to make wooden pallets and industrial packaging.

Parquet

When laying wood floors, plywood (usually WBP plywood due to its increased moisture resistance) can be used as a substrate.

Exercise equipment and toys

Plywood can often be found on sports fields, for example, jump boxes are usually made of it. Many wooden toys are also made of plywood.

Laser cutting

When it comes to manufacturing complex parts, plywood is often used for laser cutting. This requires special plywood with additional quality control.
